Translator
Set Up
The translator will need to arrive early to set up two tables, and prepare the translation devices and tablets.
Welcome Table set up
Locate the following items from the storage bin(s) and arrange them according to the picture.
- Stretchy black table cover
- Wooden box for translation devices
- Red plastic tote for storing translation devices
- Translation sign (found in smaller sign bin in larger bin)
- Hand sanitizer
Translation Table set up
Set up the translator table in the back middle of the sanctuary, where you can have a good sight of what's happening during the service.
You should have received or found these in the red translation device bin.
- Tablet for translation
- Tablet holder
- Transmitter device
- Head-mic for transmitter device
You will need to make sure the tablet has that day's service loaded on the google docs app.

During the Service
Read the Script
Pretty much every word of the service has been translated ahead of time into French, so you'll just need to read along.
Stay even if no one needs translation when the service starts
Sometimes people come in very late, even deep into the sermon. So it is best practice to remain at the back table so you'll be able to see if anyone takes the translation equipment. Also, you should follow along in the tablet during the sermon portion just so you aren't scrambling to find your place when the first recipients of translation arrive.
Post Service
Greet any new Francophones
Introduce yourself to any new people whom you assisted that day, and ask them if they had any questions. Remember, you may be doing this job because your french is better than average, and that means you're better than average suited to greet those who may struggle to engage in English with the rest of the church.
Clean Up
Put away all your materials in the bins and bags from which they came.
